Nanganallur (Tamil : நங்கநல்லூர்) has been one of the southern suburbs of Chennai till September 2011, but it is now a part of Chennai Corporation in Tamil Nadu. It is a residential area close to the Chennai International Airport.

As of 2001 India census, Nanganallur has a population of 52,230. The suburb has Hindus, Muslim and Christian population in various proportion and distributed in various regions. Hindus, mostly Tamil Brahmins, form the majority and people from outside Tamil Nadu are also represented with a significant number. As a result of Chennai's booming IT business and setting up of IT parks in the suburbs, a lot of people have moved into suburbs like nanganallur.

Towards the end of 2009, it was announced that the Chennai Corporation would be expanded to cover the surrounding 42 local bodies. This was confirmed by the new government in 2011. Nanganallur, has thus become a part of Chennai Corporation from September 2011. Nanganallur got its name because of the Rajarajeswari Temple located in Thillai Ganga Nagar. Nanganallur was known as Nangai-nallur. The name was given by the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi (a.k.a. Maha Periyaval).

Nanganallur will have a roller skating rink on 100 Feet Road near the Civil Aviation Colony. Developed on a 12,000-square-foot (1,100 m2) open ground by the Alandur Municipality it is stated to open in June 2011. The facility has been set up at a cost of INR 3.1 million. The rink is 325 feet (99 m) long and 30 feet (9.1 m) wide and it is the longest in the whole of Tamil Nadu. The facility will have an office room

  • Sri Varasiddhi Vinayahar Temple

    • Main deity is very similar to the Guruvayoor deity.
    • There are shrines for Lord Venkateswara, Sri Dharmasastha, Sri Prasanna Vinayaka and the Navagrahas.
    • The outer walls of the sanctum and sanctorum are fitted with brass lamps like in Guruvayur. During Ekadesi, Pournami, Rohini, Astami and special occasions, the lamps are lit.

    • Because of the presence of Raja Rajeswari temple, this place was called Nangai Nallur once and later became Nanganallur.

  • Sri Ashtabhuja Durgai Temple

  • Sri Dharmalingeswarar Sempon Kovil

    • Semponkoil Dhanmeesar (Dharmalingeswar temple) in south Nanganallur is an ancient temple of Pallava times that dates back about 1000 years.
    • The principal deity is Lord Shiva in the form of Dhanmeesar.
    • The temple has a three tiered gopuram. There is a separate shrine for Goddess Sarvamangalambikai. The Navagrahas, Bairvar and Anjaneyar are seen in the inner prakaram and Vinayagar is enshrined in the outer prakaram.
